A Heart of Thankfulness: Rethinking Thanksgiving & Black Friday Through a Kingdom Lens

Thankfulness as an every day posture

As we step into Thanksgiving week, many of us feel the mix of gratitude, family, good food… and the rush of holiday shopping right behind it. It’s a season filled with celebration, connection, and for many people, anticipation of Black Friday sales.

But for us at HIS Organics, this time of year carries a deeper question: How do we honor Christ in a season the world often rushes through?

Let’s pause, breathe, and look at what these days really mean—and how we can walk through them with a heart aligned to God.

The True Meaning of Thanksgiving

While families gather for food and fellowship, the heart of Thanksgiving isn’t really about the feast—it’s about the posture. A heart bowed in gratitude. A moment to remember the goodness and mercy of God.

Scripture says: “In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:18

Thankfulness isn’t seasonal. It’s not reserved for one Thursday in November. It’s a lifestyle for the believer—a daily echo of God’s goodness.

Black Friday: The World’s Pace vs. God’s Rhythm

Black Friday has become one of the biggest shopping days of the year. The culture around it often pushes:

  • urgency

  • impulse

  • pressure

  • comparison

  • consumerism

But the original heart behind Black Friday was simply to mark the start of holiday sales—not to create frantic striving or anxiety.

From a Kingdom perspective, the issue isn’t shopping. It’s the spirit behind it.

Christ never condemns enjoyment or stewardship. But He does warn us not to let worldly pressures steal our peace:

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” — Romans 12:2

And this is where we, as believers, get to choose:

  • Will I shop from panic or from purpose?

  • Will I strive or stay surrendered?

  • Will I chase deals or cherish the Giver?

There’s nothing wrong with enjoying sales—as long as the heart stays steady in Christ.

Our Heart at HIS Organics

We believe wellness begins with intention. So as we enter this Thanksgiving and Black Friday season, here’s what we want our community to remember:

✔ Shopping is fine.

✔ Taking advantage of sales is fine.

✔ Enjoying blessings is fine.

But none of it matters without a thankful heart.

Our desire is to be a brand that:

  • Brings peace, not pressure

  • Honors God through the work of our hands

  • Creates products that minister to your well-being

  • Offers value without feeding worldly frenzy

  • Encourages a Kingdom way of living

So as Black Friday approaches, we want you to shop freely, not frantically. With gratitude, not grasping. With purpose, not pressure.

Practicing Thankfulness Every Day

ree

Here are simple ways to stay rooted this week:

  • Begin each morning with one thing you’re thankful for.

  • Pause before buying anything—ask, “Is this aligned with peace?”

  • Give thanks over every meal, even the simple ones.

  • Speak gratitude over your home, your body, your journey.

  • Take moments to breathe and recognize God’s presence.

Gratitude disarms pressure. Thankfulness aligns us with Christ. Peace keeps our hearts steady.

A Season of Peace, Not Pressure

As a wellness ministry, we are committed to serving you—not pushing you.

Yes, we will have beautiful Black Friday offerings. Yes, we have gifts designed to bless you and those you love. But our heart remains the same:

Christ first. Gratitude always. Wellness that ministers.

May this season draw you closer to the heart of God, bring peace to your home, and fill your life with the beauty of thankfulness.

With love and grace,

DeNise & The HIS Organics Family
